Local Attractions

Ballyheigue beach is a seven mile stretch of white sand running all the way past the Black Rock and Banna to the mouth of Barrow Harbour. The beach itself is particularly safe for swimmers and is also manned by lifeguards during the summer months. Beach Fishing is also popular (Bass, Plaice) The Black Rock, a rocky outpost, marks the end of Ballyheigue beach about two miles to the south and is also know for its fishing. Surfing is also popular at Ballyheigue, although the bigger swells tend to arrive at Sandy Lane (a stretch of beach located about a mile past the Black Rock).

If you are interested in walking, then look no further. Ballyheigue and Kerryhead form part of the North Kerry Way which is a signposted walk running from Tralee (where it joins the Dingle Way). Other local walks can vary from simple storolls along the beach to more difficult treks over Maulin Mountain. One thing you will be sure if is a fantastic view of Tralee Bay and Brandon Mountain, as well as the coast of Clare accross the Shannon estuary. On a clear day you can see as far as the Magillicuddy Reeks (the highest mountain range in Ireland) to the South and all the way to the Aran Islands (off the coast of Galway) to the North.

Primrose & Bluewbell Cottages are ideal for visiting the delights of Kerry's scenery, Killarney, Dingle and the Ring of Kerry are all within easy reach. Tralee and Listowel are both an easy drive for shopping and sightseeing. The magnificent Cliffs of Moher are also an easy day trip from Ballyheigue.
